A message from City-Link : Emergency Situation Surcharge

Emergency Situation Surcharge
The current outbreak and situation of Covid-19 pandemic, as declared by WHO ( World Health Organization ) has severely affected both air and land travel acorss the world.
With the continuing restriction being imposed by governments around the world, we have seen an adverse effect on airlines with vast amounts of regular scheduled flights being cancelled. In some cases, partners have to source alternative routes and airlines whcih come with higher costs.
To cover such costs, we will be implementing an additional "Emergency Situation Surcharge" (ESS) of fifteen percent (15%) per consignment note on all your export and import international shipments effective 6th April 2020. Shipments to Singapore only will not be subjected to ESS.
This surcharge will be lifted once the situation will resume to normal.

Interesting to look back at this now in 2025. Feels like a lifetime ago! We run a decking company in Birmingham and still remember how tough it was to get materials during the height of the pandemic. Shipping delays and price hikes were a real issue, so it’s no surprise companies like City-Link had to add surcharges. It definitely made us more mindful of how global logistics affect even local trades like ours.
